The article says that the student is very obviously a female. Meaning, she's not androgynous. But she is claiming to be transgendered so is a "male."
And the gym teacher doesn't want to be part of that.
Some may be wondering why gym teachers need to be in the locker room when the students are getting ready? Well...that's where a lot of bullying and sexual assault happens in school: the locker room.
He cannot really do his job if he's not in the locker room. And she might get bullied even more when no adults are around. So if he really cared about her dignity, he should probably try to keep her safe. His silly puritan beliefs are getting in the way of doing his job so he is rightfully getting "disciplined" and shipped off to a different school.
The school, stunningly, allowed the female student to have access to the boys' locker room without so much as informing the male students who would be sharing the locker room with the girl or the students' parents.
Not quite sure why and how a middle-schooler is emotionally/biologically mature enough to pick her own gender, but whatever.
