Young man killed over nothing, so yeah.

I don't think a charge of profiling would stick, because they were called by Taco Bell.

While I don't think that charge would neccessarily push through, this is obviously a crime and the cops should be punished.

A rebuttal against America being an oligarchy from..... Vox.

Vox. How ironic is it a website famous for catering to that a very, very liberal audience, is debunking a study that claims the super rich control everything?

Looks to me, like this is only more proof of the rich's influence. EVERYONE defends them, regardless of ideology.

Lol. per vox, A small amount of Americans have an equal share of policy influence as a much larger group of Americans.

Yeah, money influencing policy is bad and the super rich have a ridiculously unproportionate amount of political power despite being as obliged to follow the law as we are. Whether you're "liberal" or not shouldn't change that, but leave it to bums like you to make everything about a large group of various people with various beliefs that you've decided to give a single all encompassing label.

Is it so hard to make a coherent point without resorting to strawmen?

Didn't really expect this would turn partisan. The rich controlling literally everything isn't exactly hard to prove.

What kind of issues do the "middle class" gain advantage on? It's one thing to say the masses "win" on issues. It's another to say they win on issues of real consequence, that directly opposes what elites want.

A study "debunking" another study is standard propaganda warfare. The tobacco industry funded studies "debunking" cancer causing rate. Anti-climatist's have their studies "debunking" climate change.

But seriously, if we look at politics in terms of influence, controls on means of propaganda, ability to donate to political causes, etc... All things that basically set political agenda's.

Who controls CNN. Who controls Yale and Harvard? Who do these so called "liberal professors" research for, and how much say do they have in how their research is used?

Why don't the very poor have an advocate? Why isn't more being done for prison reform? Could it be because they can't donate anything or anyone, and so nobody cares about their problems?

Sorry for the somewhat disjointed stream of consciousness, but you caught me off guard with accusing me of being partisan, because I think the US is an oligarchy. Wasn't aware this was something that indicated a "rightist" in modern day politics..

Didn't really expect this would turn partisan.

Lol do you read what you write?
Looks to me, like this is only more proof of the rich's influence. EVERYONE defends them, regardless of ideology.

No, everyone does not. Stop cherrypicking shit to support dumb blanket ass conclusions. This specific article specifically contested the extend to which the rich have disproportionate control. This has nothing to do with "everyone defends the rich regardless of ideology."

Stop trying to fit unrelated shit in your dumbass narratives.

Uh-huh.

So, what is you problem here, specifically? I mean if you're angry over inaccuracies, fuzzy logic, lack of data, etc, then you've got me. That tends to happen when I "rant", and seeing liberal "vox" have an article debunking America being an Oligarchy "triggered" me.

This seems like something else, though. Almost personal..

My problem is you're always spouting profound ass emptiness. For example:
Why don't the very poor have an advocate? Why isn't more being done for prison reform? Could it be because they can't donate anything or anyone, and so nobody cares about their problems?

Emptiness coz:

WTF does rich people influencing shit have to do with Vox posting an article disputing a study that exaggerates a problem?

It seems to me that you have a nihilistic ass world view here people can't make specific ass decisions outside of what an all powerful hand tells them to do. I suppose this explains your idiocy regarding "universal moral frameworks", and why you're always making irrelevant and incoherent rants about "the left", "the right", and both sides which have no sort of grounded basis on any specific aspect of reality.

What the **** is it with you and exaggerated melodramatic statements on the nature of humanity and society?

LOL! Katy Perry putting out some "racist" shoes.

I just wanna go back to this for one second for those who didn't watch it. This video discusses something that actually demonstrates how the media is attempting to divide this country.

This entire story came from one tweet. I'm not kidding, literally one tweet and they used it to create a narrative about racism.

Only an enemy would try to manipulate people like this. Just saying...if the media doesn't want this label they need to change.

Ok, these are fair criticisms. Thank you for going to the trouble of indulging me.

This probably deserves a bigger write up, but I'll try and briefly summarize my view here:

I "do" have a somewhat nihilistic view on politics. I can't really put together a coherent framework on why in 20 minutes (need to head out in a bit), but essentially, I started asking the question "What ISN'T being talked about."

I mean, why don't you ever hear about pro life Democrats.

Or pro-LGBT republicans, for that matter?

Of course, the obvious answer is that every single news source in America is a business. Businesses need to make money. Reporters are people who work for that business (And I mean the honest ones. Don't get me started on the Glass's, who fabricate.), who answer to a boss, who answers to HIS boss, on up the chain. This is true of EVERY major print paper, magazine, and is doubly true of online publications who use various clickbaity tactics.

So no one really cares about nuance or "truth", unless it makes a profit. That means, whatever doesn't make money, will be surpressed or ignored.

Yet, this is what shapes the political landscape. This is the crap we all take in and debate on. It's a big ****ing joke.. We're seriously arguing narratives from profit driven entities that only care about making money off of us, and have every reason to deceive us, if it helps their bottom line.

And that's just the business side of it. Add in politicians, who have every reason to lie, if it gets them elected. Throw in Twitter drama made up of kids looking for some limelight, cynical idiots like myself, which is treated as real public opinion instead of ignored as the quagmire of trolling and faux outrage that it is..

Well, that's one reason. There's a lot more, but frankly I'm not sure anyone would really want to read it, so I suppose I'll leave off and say I'll try and keep the rants to a minimum, and try and have a distinct point outside of "Arrgh, the rich!" when I do.

What is even your actual original point?

Pick one or write your own:

1. The US is an Oligarchy.
2. The US is not an Oligrachy.
3. I had no point but wanted to post that Vox wrote an article trying to debunk a long-ago debunked study about the US being an Oligarchy.

If #3 is your point, take a stance. Which one of 1 and 2 do you think?

The US government is corrupt, wouldn't quite call it an oligarchy though.

Problem is there's no perfect system of governance.

Anarchy- people are subject to the whims of each other's violence.

Monarchy- absolute power corrupt absolutely

Oligarchy- elitist class acting in their own self-interest

Direct democracy- unstable, and it would basically be two wolves and a sheep deciding what's for dinner.

Representative democracy- corruption happens.
