Honestly, I see this as a window into the attitudes of the past. You think Wayne was alone in these views? That they weren't shared by other actors, or Hollywood big shots of the time? I'd bet tokenism, the 10% rule, and the "stupidity" of blacks is something he heard more then one producer or big shot talk about.
