I lost all respect for her and her former co-host on espn Michesl smith a few years back during the whole ray rice beating his girlfriend story.

The 2 of them spent months berating women beaters, people who enable/support them, and teams that put talent over character and sign them. Which is all well and good and are things i support.

The problem for me came the following Halloween when they did a dress up theme episode where they dressed up as characters from the show Empire with Michael Smith as Terrance Howard. A very well known and multiple time woman beater.

It was strange how promoting women beaters was bad except when the person stars in a show they like. Weird.

Then next instance came when i was listening to espn radio in my car and she was going on and on about how men dont care about women and how they can get beaten and fans and teams still support them.

Which again is true and is a problem, but coming from a woman who just a few days earlier said while laughing

in reference to a Chicago bulls player who got punched in the face by a team mate in practice during an argument and got his jaw shattered, is just hallow bs.

I think social activism as a concept triggers me.

Because of an inherant, systemic flaw in the process. It works like this: Actvist tells the general public and politicians in any way they could, "I have a need. Meet my need."

Which is fine. The problem comes when someone not relevent to the activist says, "I, too, have a need."

And then the activist says "Wait your turn, we're talking about me."

See, the problem here, is the very art appealing for help, implies other people have empathy. You're essentially manipulating the sentiments of other people, for your own needs. You would THINK if someone can navigate other peoples feelings for their own benefit, it would be because they have empathy themselves, and know how those emotions work. It takes an empathetic being, to appeal to an empathetic being.

This, of course, isn't how it works at all. A complete psychopath can take advantage of empaths. You could care a twit for the plight of child slave labor in Romania, while fighting for the right to get free birth control.

Which is a pretty serious problem for me, personally, because my core assumption in all human interactions, is that any empathy I give to someone else, will be reciprocated. I take activism, and those that support activism, as a virtue signal that I mean dealing with very good people, who will not take advantage of my better nature for their own benefits. I assume I won't need to appeal to their better natures on someone else's behalf, because they'll simply automatically care about people who are not them and theirs, as they appeal to people who are not them and theirs.

This not being the case, makes it difficult to put my heart any soul behind any cause absolutely, because of this distrust of the speaker.

The solution to this, would be if there was a bedrock set of moral values that prohibited such acts as deception, malicious public manipulation, falsehoods, pettiness or general meanness.. Essentially, I want assurances that good people are in charge, and take steps to keep bad people away from the pulpit.

No one, as far as I can see, does this. Value's seem to be dead, and everyone has a pretty disturbing "There is a sucker born every minute" mentality in their everyday operations.

The only other option, seems to be not to care, but that isn't exactly in my nature either...
