The companies strongly pushed for dangerous over-prescription practices on doctors including financial incentives, threats of discount removals or being ostracized (creating a strong incentive for the doctors to comply), and misleading commercialism around the drugs.

All strong indicators of impropriety from a civil perspective. However, since people died, I think this is criminal, not civil. But "USA and capitalism!" keeps this from being a clear case of manslaughter (murder 2).

It would be like gun makers threatening doctors for not issuing guns for inappropriate reasons (such as "you will have to pay MSRP for all drugs unless you sell 100 guns a month to your patients"😉, making a bunch of commercials and brochures for doctors that understate the dangers of guns or even mislead the dangers, and having a marked increase in gun-deaths-from-gun-prescriptions.

Also, you'd have to multiply intentional homicides by guns by 12 times or something stupid like that. Because that's how many people keep dying from the opioid crisis.

So, I work the polls every year. An election is coming next week, and a neighbor who ran the polls for years suddenly quit.

I thought he was simply retiring from it, as it's a lot of work, you're up by a.m., and done by 9 p.m., and he more then did his share until his 70's.

Nope, not retired. What actually happened, was his boss told him "Listen, this year, NO VERIFIED CITIZENSHIP. No ID's, no proof, no nothing but their word. If they SAY they're a citizen, then as far as we're concerned, THEY ARE."

He was so shocked and bewildered, he had an argument, that almost resulted in a fist fight.

So he quit.

And as for me, I'm wondering where this new rule is coming from. Why on earth would they make these sudden changes? Where's the pressure coming from?

The lazy answer is, they want more Democrats voting, and don't care how they get them. (Or they don't want Democrats scared away, if you take the anti con stance.)

If the university wants to expel them, that's their business, but a crime of mere offensiveness should not compel jail time or a fine. This is thought policing, in the literal sense.
