Was/Is Snoke a smoker?

Looking at the leaked images we see that Snoke has what seems to be a stoma right where you'd expect it to be after a laryngectomy.

Knowing that this procedure is done on smokers and heavy drinkers, could it be that Snoke participated in these activities in his younger days?

Finally, knowing that he had a laryngectomy, could it be that Snoke is using an advanced force technique to project his voice that would otherwise not exist? Or is he using telepathy but his facial movements are still present for the sake of the "normie" audience?
