Superman vs Doomsday

Can anyone explain why Superman didn't casually defeat this beast?

Why did he try to carry him into space, and not just grab him by the ankles instead of placing him in a Full Nelson?

Was he too weak to toss him into deep space at that period in time?

He was at half power, that's why he had to BFR Doomsday.

Now Superman is back at his normal levels.
