I believe those were toys from Metron. It was kind of disappointing reading his stories for the first time after hearing the hype, and learning he wasn't completely a self made villain, but had one of the most powerful and most brilliant New Gods backing him.
Soon as his patronage was withdrawn, Black Zero folded like a house of cards.
