At this point it really doesn't matter. White people get lumped together and blamed for atrocities that happened before their time. If they don't feel guilty about it, they are racist. It's stupid, and I agree that it does nothing for race relations.

What i find crazy is these are the same people who say we should not judge all of the muslim world of the actions of the radicals. They can't even see the hypocrisy

The British band Slaves have been disavowed by the punk community because of their name, and how it's derived from the term 'slave to the wage', because it's apparently offensive to 'Black Americans' (so sayeth the white lead singer of an American punk band), despite slavery being something that has happened since the dawn of time and still happens now, and most slavery happening within immediate communities.

It's just weird identity-poltics pandering and I disagree with it all quite heavily. And like you say, the hypocrisy of it is astounding. But apparently because 'white people' are the eternal oppressors of everyone (yeah, Genghis Khan never existed and didn't terrorise the entire landmass he lived on or anything), it's okay to generalise them/us/whatever. Idk, just doesn't sit right with me.

I can see this post appearing on a Buzzfeed list. "10 Times White People Missed the Point Completely (look at number 8 smh!)"

Sorry, I know this point is off-topic, I forgot it was meant to be about abortion awehuhs

I agree man, and don't worry, it's changed topics several times since then.

Also can we address the fact that professors at public universities are teaching people that all white people are racist and that racial minorities are incapable of being racist?... And that diversity quotas and affirmative action, call them whatever you like, are state allowed, in some cases state funded, and are actually Supreme Court justified racial discrimination against white people that one of our political parties unapologetically supports to the extent that the media will call you a racist if you try and get rid of these racially discriminatory policies. There are social movements that push the idea that if you are white, or if you are a male, that you are inherently guilty of toxic or ignorant behavior and that you must confess your privilege and self-censor yourself for other people in specific identity groups for the sake of diversity. This is an actual movement being pushed in our society, that has actual backing of the state, indirectly through the colleges that push this horrid ideology that receive taxpayer money, and directly through a Supreme Court decision sanctioning racial discrimination against white people.

When people either push this shit, try and justify this shit, laugh in the face of anyone who suggests this is a legitimate problem, try to minimize this as being completely inconsequential, or be completely unwilling to morally condemn it on a point of principle, they are helping alienate people from their own movement at best and driving people into the hands of the alt-right at worst, and either way serve as advocates or apologists for this type of shit.

And let me make this nice and sparkling clear for anyone who would misconstrue this. This is not in any way justification for the alt-right, and I will not shy away from condemning them as well. They have a morally disgusting ideology that is completely indefensible on any point of principle, and I condemn it as I condemn all other forms of racism and racial collectivism. Beyond that I hate the pseudointellectual bullshit of the alt-right, that they thing the autistic screeching of neo-progressives somehow makes them intellectually credible, that they think anti-white racism is a moral and practical justification for white supremacist racism, and that they think their racially collectivist sophistry of "race realism" (statistical differences in average IQs in different races, claiming race and culture are indistinguishable from each other, claiming the only way for the white man to survive is a white ethnostate, etc.) is an argument that is intellectually coherent infuriates me to no end.

So don't play this whataboutism game with me. I think both are indefensible positions, I condemn both of these positions. And people should minimize both of these positions by condemning both sides of this coin from a place of individualist principle, instead of being reactionaries to one group, solely condemning them, and trying to minimize push or apologize for the other group as some sort of partisan battle. It's ridiculous, it's disgusting, and when people do this they only spur the growth of both of these groups. As long as people are pushing legal and corporate policies as well as ideologies that are blatantly anti-white masquerading at some altruistic promotion of diversity the alt-right will continue to gain new members, and as long as there are actual white supremacists out there then the idiots who preach anti-white bullshit will feel more justified in doing so. If you are on the left, recognize these intersectional dumbasses with their pseudo-altruism are a morally indefensible cancer in your movement and separate yourselves from and condemn it, and if you are on the right recognize that the alt-right and their pseudo-intellectual bullshit are not your allies but are also a cancer that tarnishes your entire movement that you should distance yourself from and condemn. Condemn both groups from an individualist point of principle and stop feeding the growth of both with partisan bullshit. That is the only way this identity conflict bullshit will ever be resolved.

Yeah, I don't think professor's should be pushing their own beliefs onto others like that. Open discussion is cool but that seems like hate speech.

No, my point is that you are responsible for your own feelings. No one makes you feel a certain way. They can try to, but you have to go along with their efforts.

Moreover, sometimes people feel guilty, because they are, in fact, guilty. Those two things are not mutually exclusive.

Affirmative action is bad but policies like it are a symptom of a larger problem.

This country has failed to address the impact that it's racist past has caused. Regardless of whether racist intent is what's driving this currently, systematic inequalities among class disproportionately affect minorities in a much more detrimental way than Affirmative action affects anyone.

Whether or not you think systematic racism is a fair name, bad stop gaps such as affirmative action are a result of issues like enviromental discrimination, rezoning, communities that are largely segregated in practice, our criminal justice system. and schools being largely segregated in practice.

Does this mean your bromance with Ziggy is over?

I disagree. People can make you feel all sorts of ways. If someone keeps telling you constantly that you are a racist, regardless of whether you are or not, you are going to get angry, defensive, or sensitive to it. It's only natural to do so.

What bromance? When he spouted alt-right bullshit on the battle bar I called out how pseudo-intellectual and morally indefensible it was.

Who the hell is Ziggy?

Really? Because if someone accuses me of being racist, it is water off a duck's back, because I know I am not racist. I do not feel a reflexive urge to defend against a baseless accusation.

Yeah, one accusation doesn't necessarily merit an emotional response. However, several accusations and constant media coverage pushing racism tends to get under your skin.

Good on you for rising above but you must understand that not everyone reacts the same way.

That's you, though. Not everyone is the same, and people react differently in different situations. I have a bit of a defect where the one thing that really riles me is somebody insisting that I'm something I'm not. It just naturally gets to me. So I get what socool is saying. It's not like every non-racist person will take it as coolly as you when they get called racist.

Really, so if the alt-right and white supremacists screech about black people being niggers and subhuman filth, should the black people and everyone else not give a shit because they should know that black people being subhuman is a baseless accusation?

Is this the same standard you would hold towards all racially collectivist ideology and behavior?

Not all white people are racist, but no black people are *******. That you think those are logically equivalent speaks volumes though.

Did you just say black people can't be racist ?

Perhaps.
