It wasn't until Superman showed up and served an ass kicking that Steppenwolf was beaten..........

How stuff works in the real world doesnt matter here.

So far in the films, nothing had put a dent on vibranium except, vibranium claws or the combined assault of Thor's lightning, Iron man's lasers, and Visions Infinity gem blast used together at the same time. Was also hinted that Ultron wasn't 100% vibranium. just a mixture.
