Sidious was in a couped up area. Yoda is smaller and therefore more comfortable in using his Form IV style, putting Sidious at a disadvantage.

Excuses. Yoda had the same environment that Sidious had access to and was fighting on the lower ground throughout the latter part of the fight. They started on equal ground. Yoda failed. He also failed against Dooku.

Windu put down Sidious but only lost his life due to Anakin's interference. Sidious was defeated in a fair duel one on one.
