Huh, well this is a little bit different from the usual throng of Trek vs Wars debates, so I'll entertain it a little. The First order doesn't have the numbers that the Old Empire had. Nor do they have the territory and resources Sheev had. They do however have some very impressive machines. Dreadnoughts, the Supremacy, and Starkiller base are all very capable. and in fact the Starkiller is one weapon that the Federation has no real defense against. However, that is relying purely on a superweapon. If we were to go to ship to ship engagement, I'd see this as much closer than people think, and yet the First Order's firepower remains a head ahead of any Federation ship I can think of in ship to ship combat.
No, they don't.
FO ships are slow, their weapons have pathetic ranges and fighters are a big threat to them.
Fighters and those slow bombers used by the resistance would be easily dealt with by the Federation. FO ships need specifically designed bombardment weapons just to hit the rebel base.
As we see in DS9 episode "Die is Cast" Trek weapons can wipe out 30% of the surface of a planet with an opening barrage. This point is significant because it's standard weapons being used.
