Totally true, you'd have to bring out the most powerful X-Men or mutants ever to beat them. Jean Grey, Dark Phoenix and others near her level. LOSH has always been beast. Not sure if the JL could actually take them?
Broadly speaking, I think historically DC has had the more powerful heroes. Over the decades, Marvel has upped its superhero feats, but I think overall it still lags a bit behind DC. The main reason? Marvel generally has a better hierarchy of cosmic and abstract-type characters for doing most of the over-the-top stuff, whereas DC still relies more on its main heroes (Supes being #1 ofc) to fill in those high-end zones when a story demands it.
This is why, IMO, it is often tricky comparing heroes from different comic universes. They don't always serve the same functions in their respective domains.

Yeah. Especially if you go back several decades, pre crisis stuff. But I think dc pretty much wins every decade.
