death penalty is revenge, not justice. nobody ever makes a sober argument in defense of it. either petty whining about some microscopic penny clipping taken out of their taxes, or the old tried and true grandstand "what would you do if it was YOUR ______!".

What are your thoughts on my idealistic stance on the death penalty where a person deemed unfit to ever be in society again can elect either the death penalty or life sentence?
I voted yes but I would want to vote "conditionally yes or no."
I want efficiency. I want inmates to work and produce for society. If he can get along with his handlers and inmates, put him to work, give him an education. Rehabilitate him. Make him a tax paying productive member of society.
"What if he murdered your sister in high school!"
Well, two answers:
1. My religious beliefs say I must forgive him.
2. I'd be angry and very very sad. I think I'd want to beat the shit out of him but I would not want to kill him.
3. If I caught him in the act of murdering people, I would probably kill him if I had the means.
This is just pathetic, this guy is rehearsing lines cause he cant remember what happened?

I do agree with this sentiment. Justice should not be about spite. In an instance such as this such an individual shouldn't be left to wander in society again. What are your thoughts on my idealistic stance on the death penalty where a person deemed unfit to ever be in society again can elect either the death penalty or life sentence?
no i wouldn't support allowing prisoners to commit suicide instead of serving time. i think the entire prison system needs to be reformed at least to the point where suicide won't seem like a kind option. I'm not saying we build sports clubs in prison and put a 60" 4k tv in every cell, but the system as it stands seems backwards and evil.

It's inhumane, people get away with serious shit there, and having any part of the prison system privatized incentivizes a lobby to get more people in jail.
