Georgia Lawmakers Threaten to Violate Delta's First Amendment Right

Or, worst of all, they know they're breaking laws, and have a reasonable belief that no one will call them on it. DA's and judges turn blind eyes all the time.

that's my guess. or else why not just quietly legislate their revenge, like they always do? it seems like they're trying to see if they can get away with more open corruption.

the first amendment literally protects you from having laws passed in order to shut you up. you've already proven you don't understand the bill of rights when it involved situations about corporate sponsorship and boycotting. (in which cases you whined about freedom of speech. weird.)

If what you say is true then obviously this won't work and will backfire. Problem solved.

"This makes my position look bad so shut up about it."

I say just let people who wanna separate do so. I'm sure in time the NRA will find replacements.

Either this is illegal and will backfire, or it's legal and will still make them look bad.

Blackmail is basically doing something to someone you have every legal right to do normally, to force something out of them (You just know crooked politicians thought long and hard about that one.)

So yeah, I'd assume this is blackmail.

Unless it slides by because they didn't outright say they'd reduce prices back down if they changed their stance.

Depends on how they're doing it. I believe blackmail requires a formal written letter, if the threat is spoken I think it's just extortion... lol

Lol that's hilarious if true but wait...who would actually write down their intention to commit a crime this serious?

"Dear Sir,

Pay me money or I will (insert threat).

Sincerely,

The Person Blackmailing You".

the blackmail was in the form of a tweet (see article).

If it's a tweet I'm wondering if someone will try to be a little weasel and say "oh an intern tweeted that" or something.

sure why not. it worked for the orange weasel. got his lawyer to say they did it.

tl;dr- georgia lawmakers are threatening to jack up jet fuel costs on delta as retribution for their severance with the nra. i'm not naive, and know well that historically lawmaking and bribes/blackmailing often go hand in hand. but isn't it technically illegal and supposed to be kept secret?

maybe it's just that corporations are people, but some corporations are more people than others?

It's very simple: The 2nd Amendment > 1st Amendment. That's how the NRA and their acolytes view it.

I'm serious, but I looked it up and it turns out that it's dependent upon the state as to whether or not it has to be in writing...

Well, these Georgia lawmakers should be taken out into the streets and beaten savagely.

But that's just my barbaric and immature opinion because I care too damn much about America's Freedoms.

Beat 'em with clubs and stuff. No nut shots.

That's fair. No cruel and unusual punishments. lol

Was the left concerned when the Obama administration violated the rights of the tea party by targeting them with the IRS?

Was the left concerned with the illrgal spying on the Trump campaign?

I'm also not buying the whole "we need to protect corporations rights" by the left now simply because it involves the NRA.

This is pretty ludicrous. The Govt shouldn't create winners and losers like this based on relationships that public entities have between each other. Especially when they aren't even related.........guns and airplanes oh my.

I'm pretty sure this wouldn't have been kept secret though since its done through the state legislation and its a large tax incentive for Delta.

"but obama" nice win 👆

forever champions of kmc

I wonder if Doug Jones will do anything about this awful situation, not buying the crocodile tears for Delta.

The IRS lost that fight:

IRS Apologizes

Still, that was a weaponizing of our govt and they shouldn't have done that either.

i always thought that the game hinges around pretending that the legislation was introduced and passed because of sensible other reasons. you're not supposed to go public and state your intention to harm a specific company as retribution.
