That's still impressive. And while that means that he's not as good as with lighsabers, it just gives him the advantage of being able to lower the senses of certain opponents, giving him the ability to not fight anyone at their best.

Be consistent. The fact is, Sidious took out three council members in less than 3 seconds. How he did it is irrelevant, the point is, he can accomplish that. That means that he has to have some ability to do that.
