Datapads

I take it that datapads are the Star Wars equivalent of smartphones. Or smartphones are the Earth equivalent of datapads. Whichever came first.

Their are several varieties of datapad, similar to in the real world, where their are different companies who produce different varieties like the iPhone, Samsung, Google etc.

Aside from probably holoprojectors, what cool features might a datapad have that our phones are currently too primitive to possess?

They could tell the potency of your sperm just from pointing it at a load. No more going to a doctor to tell if you're shooting blanks or not

The Companion2000 has several standard features most datapads have, including its touch-sensitive color readout screen, audio pickups, headphone ports and power cells that operate for 3 months between recharges.

Data can be imputed via the keyboard or by using the data stylus. Users can attach readout glasses that scroll information across transparent lenses so that the wearer can perform other tasks while simultaneously calling up data.

The Companion2000's standard data ports and interfaces allow linking with datapads, droids, and computers. Special programs permit linking with weapons and vehicles.

Some datapads include miniaturized hologram recorders or visual recorders to scan text and data images. Voice and retinal-motion controls provide hands-free operation.

Datapads serve as personal secretaries, information organizers, input/output devices, map or data displays and portable databanks. Even the least powerful models can process information, store and display memos and tell time.

All datapads share a common operation module with full fledged computers and droids: artificial intelligence.

A typical datapad model weighs less than a kilogram and fits easily into a pocket or carry pouch, or snaps onto a belt.

Besides the internal memory, datapads can store information and programs on datacards. These thin plastic cards can record huge amounts of data. Data cards are extremely durable and can be bent, dropped and exposed to extreme weather conditions without suffering significant damage.

Datapads run on small power cells. A typical cell provides enough energy for 2 weeks of continuous processing. They can also connect to an external power source which saves power cell energy. Some units have internal charge cells which can be recharged from an external power source.

The data screen offers a superior holo crystal display. Even when connected for a sensor array dump, the display provides a clean, crisp graphic images of terrain or space features with little distortion or image blurring.

- Galadinium's Fantastic Technology

Essentially any datapad is a device for storing, processing and passing on information. However, datapads come in countless shapes and sizes, costing anything from a handful of credits for something like a battered old MicroData Companion 2000 to hundreds of thousands of credits for a custom-built slicer pad with all the trimmings.

Modern Datapads have an average of over 20 million data screen units(DSUs), coupled with the very latest artifical intelligence data analysis sub-routines.

Starship mechanics can maintain innumerable systems using equipment manuals carried in their hard-wearing datapads.

Shopkeepers can keep store inventory lists, supplier contacts and customer records.

Medical technicians can use systems that allow accurate diagnosis of conditions of species that they may not have encountered during their training.

Spectators at large sporting events can tie their datapads into cameras covering events from up close.

Diplomats can make use of real-time translation programs during debates, while maintaining access to databases on customs, planetary and galactic law, and even species' food preferences.

Scouts and soldiers in the field use datapads to map their progress over new or dangerous terrain automatically, and can also use them to indicate to others following them after which areas to avoid or target.

- Fact File 10

Each datapad can host thousands of different programs, allowing it to double as a writing tool, calculator, slicing terminal, gaming device, map display, recording rod crystal reader and hundreds of other gadgets.

Other common features include a built-in hologram projector that can produce holograms up to twenty centimeters tall or interactive holomaps. Miniaturized holo- and visual recorders can scan and store images, while audio and visual pickups, headphone ports and comlinks allow the user to tap into local comm networks.

There's pretty much everything on Datapads.

Nice. Thank you. It’s unfortunately still Legends but that could change.

Oh you were looking for current Canon? Well can't help you there.

Canon Datapads have pretty much the exact same features.

In the Thrawn novelization, for example, Datapads were used in nearly every capacity you cited above.

Fair enough.
