TBH i dont see Doom as the direct replacement of Thanos...At least not in the near future.
Originally posted by FlyattractorThano still has willpower second to none and acquired the gauntlet in both. I dug doom will outshine reed Richards. Loki is inferior to Thor as well. Not saying doom can’t be good in the right situation but he’s no Thanos. Wait and see if you don’t believe me.
[b]This is Movie Thanos. Thanos isn't really much like Thanos from the Comics. So I guess Doom could be done Differently too.
AINT THAT RIGHT SHILLY!!!!!!

On some level I have to agree with quan here. Doom is definitely a great villain and has had many moments as the biggest bad threatening the setting, but Thanos has always seemed to be higher in threat level on a more consistent basis, and not just due to being more personally powerful. I could be wrong, as I'm not hugely knowledgeable on comics, particularly Marvel, but that's always the impression I've had.
Though who knows? Maybe this could end up happening:

What I appreciate about Doom is that he is a self-made god. He is just a mortal man, but has reached power levels beyond what any normal person ever has. And Willpower "Second to none"? He was literally being dissected ALIVE by the Beyonder and still had the strength to fight through and activate his absorbing tech in his suit to become Beyonder Doom. He straight up tanked a willpower check from a PLANET-WIDE amped Killgrave without his tech. Doom has the willpower, the intelligence, the sorcery and the technology to be an ultimate badass; as well as his incredibly written character. I just hope that the MCU will do him justice. As long as the Russos or someone of similar competence can get their hands on him I'll be thrilled.

The main problem with Thanos is the same as with anything Starlin does: It's easy to be the smartest man in the room, when everyone else in the room is an idiot.
I mean, Reed Richards is a guy who pulls a Celestial killing cannon out of his closet. And Doom is a peer, who figures out ways to drain off Galactus, Odin, etc. Give these guys prep, and Thanos should have some competition..
But they don't get prep against him. No one does.. Only he gets prep. He gets to be pro-active, while everyone else is just reacting to him.
Batman tactics, basically.
And this is Starlin's MO for villains.. Synarr, he was hiding under the radar, gathering power, manipulating heroes (OOC heroes at that. He broke Captain Comet by beating him to death and resurrecting him repeatedly.. A horrible thing, but something a hero should generally be able to handle with the fate of the multiverse on the line. And The Weird just gave in, for no real reason.)
So yeah, his villains are pretty awesome, but a little TOO awesome, in that they never make mistakes and always have the upper hand against characters who really should be able to press them.
Thanos is the big bad even when not written by starlin. We see Lord Mar-vell had prep and an entire universe pitted against Thanos and bringing him down. Thanos came out on top with less preparation. This wasn’t written by starlin. That’s just one indication. In marvel’s the end we see both Doom and Thanos trying to defeat Ak and only Thanos comes out on top because doom’s plan is inherently flawed. Thanos truly is the best and not just according to starlin but according to multiple writers. He’s the big bad of marvel comics and not the cinematic universe. Thanos truly is the best.
Doom has won multiple greatest villain of all time awards, and many writers have said he is the best villain.

Stating stuff like that has not a lot of weight to it. Also, Doom again is who Darth Vader was mostly modeled after. He is who Thanos got much of his character's dialect from. Doom is the OG Marvel big bad and has a better personal story than Thanos. Thanos is mostly more powerful. So there is that.
