So, why did Whis lie?

Whis stated that Beerus was using 70% of his power against SSJG Goku, and considering that Vegito was still stated to be much weaker then Beerus, what was the point in Whis lying?

They were alone in their own world when he said that to Beerus, it's just rather strange.

Beerus can casually one-shot MSSB-level beings now. Obviously a n00b-SSG Goku didn't press him to within 30% of his maximum... Not even remotely close.

Depends. If power levels are like WoW levels, with each higher level needing more XP, 70% of level cap can cover a lot of lower levels.
