George Lucas reveals what he would have done with episodes 7 - 9

"[The next three Star Wars films] were going to get into a microbiotic world. But there’s this world of creatures that operate differently than we do. I call them the Whills. And the Whills are the ones who actually control the universe. They feed off the Force.

"Back in the day, I used to say ultimately what this means is we were just cars, vehicles for the Whills to travel around. We’re vessels for them. And the conduct is the midi-chlorians. The midi-chlorians are the ones that communicate with the Whills. The Whills, in a general sense, they are the Force.

"If I’d held onto the company I could have done it, and then it would have been done. Of course, a lot of the fans would have hated it, just like they did Phantom Menace and everything, but at least the whole story from beginning to end would be told."

It's highly unlikely Lucas thought of this idea until after TFA came out, but it's still rather interesting. It might be something like Mortis where the events parallel the saga movies. There's really little chance Lucas would have made more Star Wars movies - that's why he gave it to Disney, after all. He's just now regretting that he didn't make more.

Well, the original name for Star Wars was "The Journal of the Whills" and Lucas already had the concept of the midi-chlorians penned down in 1977, so I'm going to have to disagree. Call it a hunch.

The concept of the Whills has been around for a while. I didnt really imagine that there was to be a trilogy about them, though.

George's ideas for the ST are all over the place.

Sounds amazing.

There's nothing to disagree about. I'm aware Lucas had the idea of the Whills and midichlorians since the 70s, but Lucas has already given extensive commentary on his take of the sequel trilogy in the 80s/90s/00s, and it's significantly closer to the Disney sequel trilogy than following mythological figures like the Whills. He may have planned to intertwine some Whill mythology into his old sequel trilogy plans, but there was definitely no plans for something as direct as this.

I dont think Lucas regrets not making them.

He said it himself in the same interview that people would have hated on his idea just like they hated on midichlorinans in TPM.

As for his ST idea, theres no actual plot given, so its impossible to judge one way or the other.

This sounds a bit too Star Trekie for me... Glad it didn't happen, tbh.

Wouldbe a cool premise for a stand alone film. But for a trilogy, should have just started with Luke's order. Let's hope johnson cleans up his game for the 4th trilogy. That's the one that might be worth seeing.

Didn't Lucas write story treatments for 7,8 and 9 for Disney to use, but they disregarded them?

Yeh TFA ruined that opportunity unfortunately.

They own Star Wars now. The days of Lucas are gone.

When Disney first acquired Star Wars, Kennedy promised that Lucas would still play a big role in the franchise's direction as a key consultant -- a position GL seemed very much on board with at the time.

...But of course that was all bullshit, as Kennedy has seemingly 86'd Lucas from the franchise since.

That is their fight since they bought the rights. Lucas had years but did nothing so don’t cry over this baby. He sold the rights get over it. You don’t even care about Star Wars that much tbh.

Actually Disney is the one crying after Solo flopping.

There were articles last year they foresaw this. Star Wars fans are quite toxic and I hope they realize that with their MCU, live action remakes, animation that maybe they don’t cater to the losers like yourself who find cheering on against their own brand to be productive. People like you chased off tran of social media.

You actually just made my day.

This is one the most hilarious things I've ever heard. Star Wars is so...stuck in a weird place. It's creator, who comes up with the most brilliant ideas, but sucks at creating good entertainment wants to statisfy himself as an artist by creating the dumbest things in existence, but its consistently saved by some others who actually know what they're doing.

Now I'm actually curious, because George Lucas' original concept for the whills (as stated in this interview) is a great idea for something I'm sure, but obviously, fans would hate it. It's like magic shool bus or something. But I'd love to read a book about an alternative star wars universe, where this really is the case, and maybe I'd want Lucas to fully satisfy himself as an artist, or maybe I'd just like his concepts to be used as a basis for a piece of art that's actually good, I don't know. But this makes me happy.

I want to know more about this.

****ing stay away from Star Wars. Man, this guy is a sado-maso. He likes to ruin his own universe and troll the fanbase.
