Kill la Kill: The Game: IF
A Kill la Kill fighting game is in the works. Coming to PS4 and PC in 2019.
"It is an action fighting game in 3D space, primarily one on one fighting," said APlus Games' director Hideaki Mizota. "A game that would play similarly is the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm series. It has a similar feel. What we wanted to do is take elements from the story that may or may not have existed and put them in a one on one scenario. To be able to express that, 3D space was the decision that was made."Arc System Works is publishing the game this time around, but it appears as though they still have sway with the project with their number one goal being producing a game that is fun and feels good to play.
"The idea of the game feeling good the moment you pick up the controller when you’re moving around is important," said Toshimichi Mori, producer at Arc System Works. "I think in the world of video games the distinction is made in the first 30 to 60 seconds when picking up the controller. It’s really important to get the feeling right."
As for details about the game's story, the representatives were cautious to speak about anything specific though they do say that looking at the game as a 'what if scenario' is along the right train of thought. Plus it will feature "bits and pieces from the anime" and then some with some extra development and attention to characters like the Elite Four.
A new dialogue mechanic will also be included into the gameplay of Kill la Kill the Game which will let players express what they are feeling in certain moments as speeches or taunts to keep with the spirit of the anime.
"The dialogue mechanic came from APlus Games and Arc System Works," said Hiromi Wakabayashi, producer at Studio Trigger. "What I think they were able to do, and we’re not video game makers, we were focused on the story and fighting and they presented a fresh perspective and transforming part of the anime into a gameplay mechanic."
