Planes, Trains, and Automobiles has to be my best road trip film:
- Great balance between comedy and drama
- Lovable and believable characters
- Excellent plot structure and revelation near the end
Rain Man is up there.
I'll watch Todd Phillips' filmography of road movies as well (Road Trip, Euro Trip, Hangover, Due Date).
I liked Elizabethtown as well.

I remember this as being one of the movies where Matt Damon makes one of his weird, out of place, cameos.

I always loved the "scotty doesn't know" part of Eurotrip lol.
I found it highly amusing that it ends up becoming like a Worldwide hit, so it starts playing on the radio and things.
Or the other guy who pretends to be at work while going on the trip with them, and ends up getting a promotion while he is away.
