O.K. Why I've been online so much lately

I got Malaria from a mossy, followed by Typhoid from probably the salad in a Scwharma, I have not been eating anyone's ass, really... Hectic first six weeks back in West Africa, the blood test today said I have no active Salmonella so the Typhoid is on it's way out.

In my travels, I've had, a lot of regional diseases which until the second half of the last century were killers - legionnaires disease, cholera and now Malaria (which I have had twice before and Typhoid.

Have you had any diseases which would probably have killed you if you lived before modern medicine?

Amazingly, I still haven't taken a day off work with Malaria and Typhoid.

Divirticulitis, inadvertently self-induced about 20 years ago (I was trying to gain weight and eating more than my body was used to). Yep, if not for antibiotics I'd be posting on KMC Afterlife Edition now.

What happened Mindship that's a new one to me.

I was trying to bulk up, eating to fullness after years of eating to only "3/4 full" (I don't like that bloated stomach feeling). My colon couldn't handle the volume, and in the middle of the night, told me so. The pain was excruciating; at one time I thought I would pass out from it. Off to the hospital I went (wife drove), where I stayed for the next 3 days consuming only clears, a glucose drip, and antibiotics.

Left untreated, a bad case of divirtic can lead to peritonitis, which is potentially fatal. At the very least, major surgery could be involved. I was lucky.

It's one of the reasons I consider getting older a privilege.

I'm a type 2 diabetic, not as impressive as you two guys but not so long ago, I'd have lapsed into a coma and probably died instead of being diagnosed as a 9=year old boy, also, I got Bette Davis eyes.

Did get really sick for about 5weeks or so about 10 years back, 30+ vials of blood drawn and endless test, doctors could not figure not exactly what I had. A rare disease specialist towards the last week or so made an educated guess, some virus (forget the name), but even he wasn't 100% sure. Came in went without a single day of treatment, as no one could pin it down.

I say this without pride or boastfulness, but I do believe what I had would have killed 99.99% of people 🙂

In 4th grade I was diagnosed with Meningococcemia, which is a form of Meningitis that stays in the blood instead of going around the brain and spinal cord. At the time that I got it, it could kill you in 24 hours. Thanks to my mom being super intense with getting me to 4 doctors in a day – which I vehemently fought against – I was admitted into ICU and didn't have to have my legs or arms amputated.

In 7th grade, the tip of my finger was cut off by a folding chair. I had a V incision to pull the remaining skin over. What's funny is that they kept my nail in so that they could pull it out later. Anyway I developed an intense infection that blackened half of my middle finger, so iodine and antibiotics probably saved my life from death by infection.

I also got, like, 4 ear infections 4 summers in a row... so glad I can hear to this day.

What else... I accidentally slit my wrist on an old ass umbrella that probably could have killed me.

A few months ago I accidentally jammed a retractable razor into my index finger that got infected because I didn't want to go to Urgent Care because it costs too much (wife ended up making me go anyway). Being a d&d nerd is more dangerous than people think.

Oh, I had my gall bladder removed in January because it was borderline. Still exhibiting awful symptoms though, so I have to go back to the GI doctor again someday.

@Rob and Blight... So many of us would not have made 40 a hundred years ago. and cheers Rob, still struggling with energy levels but it could be much worse.
