How would the MCU have treated SHAZAM?

This is more of an opinion thread than anything, speculation of how well would the original Captain Marvel had they bought the rights to the character instead of DC ( whom I don't believe has made, good use of the character over the decades )

Opinions........

Who the fuk knows? He might be the top hero, he might get sidelined like the other Supes-esque characters. I think Stan and Jack would have been kind but who really knows?

Today however, he's just a white kid that turns into a white adult male with an external power source. Which means he'd pass on the torch to a woman or a minority. Billy Batson would probably grow up addicted to crack and be powerless or dead, but Captain Marvel/Shazam would be a top tier heroine

As a film character, probably have him as Tony Stark's other teenage fan and give him some sort of Saturday morning suit, he'd have been ghey as ****! Perhaps in comic terms, we'll find out if they ever integrate Miracleman into the Marvel Multiverse, I for one can't wait to see Johnny Bates tearing off Scouts other arm as he anally rapes the **** out of him and Sentry.

I thought of Miracleman too and how Marvel does nothing with him at all. Such a waste, but with the writers they have it's good he stays away.

But we assume the Shazam buy happened way back when so it'd turn out better me thinks. Or at least, they'd use him... maybe not for the better

I would love to see HBO do a Miracleman series ending at Olympus. Agreed, but Gaiman was going to finish everything...

Neat. I forgot all about Gaiman being attached. Now I'm actually pretty stoked for this. It might be happening this time.

Fantastic, me too, I used to piss people off by saying this every other post long ago but Miracleman 15 is the greatest individual comic of all time. Nothing, not even days of future past is so imitated.

If they’d gotten CM back in 1972 like DC did, he’d have been an Avenger in good standing, and right up there w. Thor and Hulk as one of the MU’s powerhouses.
Unlike DC Marvel doesnt have a problem “sharing” the top spot. Hulk’s strongest, while Thor’s more diverse, and you have a half dozen or so other bricks and/or energy manipulators circling the two at any given time, and even surpassing them occasionally.

DCs pecking order, where everyone falls behind Supes, guaranteed that’d never happen, w. CM or anyone else (MM, Captain Atom, Orion...).
Other than that, i can see the Olympian pantheon being more prominent, CM and Herc as frenemies (there’d have to be a rivalry there), and the Wizard maybe having some retroactive history w. The Ancient One/in magic circles.

The real Captain Marvel story is childish wish-fulfillment and fantasy. Billy is meant to be prepubescent, which makes it difficult to have him as a primary character in a modern comics universe. He might work OK as a side-character in a team book, though. But there's still something creepy with a boy becoming a magic man, when explored the way modern comics explore topics.

Realizing this, DC has upped Billy's age over time, but there are still problems. Frankly, I think Captain Marvel as a concept belongs to an earlier time. He just doesn't suit modern comics, which is why even the Shazam movie has to age Billy to teenagehood, and treat the movie as essentially a farce.

You’ve seen the movie already?

I think the trailer suffices

Billy would not have done well in Marvel.

Marvel was always more edge lordish a company.

At least in DC he got a few solid decades of lip service of being a peer to the GOAT superhero.

Disagree to agree.

Billy would have had a drug heavy episode that he kept relapsing into.

Mary would have become an underage prostitute to make ends meet.

Current Billy would probably just chop his dick off because he doesn't feel right in his skin and is angry that the Wizard assumed his gender when he gave him a superpowered adult male form instead of a gender fluid super form.

Marvel sucks for the most part when it comes to escapism from life.

^^^obviously. 🙂

Remember how much better Justice League was then Avengers?

There's your answer.

^^^heh...

Shazam would rival Count Nefaria but would nearly always need help taking him down if he were in the MU. He'd be right there with Gladiator.

^^^i can see that.
I can see him as coming off as better though, with more appearances and steady feats, being earth based.

Speaking of, i’d like to see a storyline where Glads is stuck on earth for an extended period.

They'd have hated writing him and it would have shown.

If you're writing CM you have got to spend an awful lot of time writing about the wisom of solomon the strength of the speed of the ... and the seven sins... they'd have streamlined the character to make a jo everyman magic brick
