Match starts, her FF is already up, and she's looking to kill. Normal humans can hold their breath for 2 mins. Storm isn't out to kill. Storm is also a squishy human, with squishy human internals.

Interesting feat, but it also goes against the occasions when she actively needed to reinforce her ff. Perhaps it stays up via residual energy, but can be broken by a powerful enough counter force?

Either way, she'd still be unconscious behind her shield, which counts as a forum win. 🙂

Though tbh, due to the nature of her powers, IW has more feats of 'reacting' to energy attacks than Storm, I wager. Just due to her role on the FF.

If she reacted and threw up a shield, fine, but the writing makes it look like she tanked the ride.

Question: would Sue be able to, say, stab Superman or Thor with a forcefield blade? Because if she can't penetrate skin flesh, why should she be able to expand a bubble inside flesh that's equally tough? Superman (eg) isn't just nigh-invulnerable on the outside but through and through, right?

And if all it takes to subdue Supes or Thor is cut off their oxygen, then why couldn't other energy-field casters do the same? Like Surfer? Or even Magneto? Why can't he create a magnetic field inside his opponent in the same manner as Sue with her forcefields?

It was a sparring, but that doesn't mean she wouldn't choose to shield herself in a death or life situation like that. Her powers were functioning properly and so were her reflexes.

Alternatively, we could assume that the unstable molecules of her costume protected her, but that's a stretch.

Took a minute, but think I recognize that scan. That's from John Ostranders run on Heroes for Hire, isn't it?

Considering Sue was only in a few scenes, that's not a bad feat. A little bit sloppy on the writing side, imo, considering Danny reflexively using an Iron Fist is kind of out of character, and goes against the mechanics of the power (What, did he reflexively charge it up first? Doesn't that take conscious focus and effort?)

I suppose I could abuse the scan for my own purposes if someone questions whether Danny can use the fist on reflex, though. 👆

Because your lungs are designed to expand and contract - they're essentially bags.

Would she burst your lungs? No. But neither are you breathing. Your heart isn't going to be able to beat.

Not to mention, it's a question of scale.

Could Sue hurt Superman? Definitely.

Could she kill him? That's the part that's up in the air.

Manchester Black tried TKing his circulatory system. Hurt him, but he survived it and was able to act.

Black Adam had an entire teresect open and close inside his head. Knocked him out, but he survived it.

I love Ostrander, but I don't think he really liked Iron Fist.

Deadpool laughs at his slippers. Really hard, and really long Keith Giffen JLA style Blue Beetle and Booster Gold laughter.

Human Torch 1, when confronted about Deadpool even being forced on the team, was told by Danny that as leader needs to know these things, responds with "And who said you were leader?"

There are no less then three scenes in a row, where Cage, Colleen, and Human Torch take turns shouting "YOU DID WHAT??!!!", with Danny's face looking more stressed each time.

In the finale, Danny made a comment about how things are looking up, and Colleen snaps "Danny, don't even think about pretending you planned this!"

Feats wise, plot wise, and character wise, it's grade A Ostrander writing, but you can read between the lines on his opinion of Danny there. 🙂

It also happens to be the best tactic against a character who's main power is hitting things really hard, and sponging damage.

It's a cheap tactic of getting out of actually debating for the character you are repping.

It's an ability that they have though. Oh no, this guy is punching me to death! No... must keep doing what I've been doing for the past ten hours, and not change tactics!!!

In character, most characters don't kick, they punch.

Does that mean they are unable to kick? Don't know how to kick? When facing an opponent, they don't kick at all because in 90% of their fights, they drawn and written as boxers?

Not sure if I agree, given that Superman (iirc) has withstood reality-warping by force of will, something I would think operates on a much more intimate scale than TK or a forcefield (this, of course, being open to interpretation). Otherwise this opens a whole new avenue for affecting high-herald beings.

Mostly, I tend to see this as writing comics for the most exciting story, rather than character/ability consistency.

In any event, thanks again for some clarification.
