Are you saying Gender is a social construct? Sex is binary with a few extremely rare cases. Gender and sex overlap significantly for a large number of people. Society doesn’t socialize people to accept a particular system of gender. Reality does.
Male/female is biology.
Masculine/feminine is the construct.
Guys have a penis, is reality. Guys don't wear skirts, is a construct.
The muddy part, how much of biology goes into gender roles, and how much is social conditioning.
For example, many guys are aggressive. Gun shootings are far more common among men, then they are among women. Can this all be social conditioning?
But not all guys are aggressive. Some are passive. Many are not.
The bullshit Frankfurt school Adam probably subscribes to (No offense, Adam. 😛 ) would argue it's all social construct. I, personally, don't trust their view as objective, because they were founded with the purpose of subversion, and people who don't fit into social norms have a vested interest in dismantling norms, or at the least modifying them so they can more comfortably fit in to the mainstream.
I think it's a futile effort, myself. After decades of theory, people still largely behave as they have since the 1940's. Even liberals don't "really" fully accept those they claim to represent, as examples are abound of disparity within their own communities. Alll that's changed, is what people say, but not what they do.
