Vitiate's ability to devour The Force is a variation of Thought Bomb?

The description of the thought bomb in Drew's Darth Bane: Path of Destruction:

"According to legendary accounts, the ancient Sith had the ability to forge the dark side into a concentrated sphere of power and then unleash its energy in a single, devastating blast. All those sensitive to the Force-Sith and Jedi alike-would be consumed by the explosion, their spirits trapped in the great vacuum created at the epicenter of the detonation."
-Darth Bane: Path of Destruction
"Those at the epicenter of the blast had been vaporized. Caught on the fringes of the thought bomb's radius, Githany was not so lucky. The wave of pure dark side energy swept over her an instant later. It tore through her like some terrible wind, [sucking the essence of life from her body and ripping her spirit from its corporeal shell. Her flesh withered and shrank, her beautiful features mummified before she even had time to scream. And then, as quickly as it had come, the wave had passed. For one frozen moment her lifeless husk stood in perfect balance, before it toppled and struck the ground, disintegrating into ash."
-Darth Bane: Path of Destruction

Vitiate feeds on the conflicts of The Old Republic - gathering enough power and moves to Ziost

“The scores of dead [B[have nourished me[/B]. I am awakened. And I bring with me--death!”

From (Emperor Vitiate, Star Wars: The Old Republic: Rise of the Emperor)

:However, he did gain power enough to flee the jungle moon and survive."

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Rise of the Emperor: Codex Entry titled "Vitiate"😉

After he fed on the conflicts, he possessed the people on Ziost:

"Unleashed from his sanctuary on Yavin 4, the former Sith Emperor has now struck the Imperial world of Ziost. Using his [B[immense power[/B] in the dark side of the Force, he has dominated the minds of the planet’s Imperial troops--as well as an elite cadre of militaristic Jedi--and has set them against the populace, engaging in a bloody slaughter.

From (Star Wars: The Old Republic: Rise of the Emperor)

Koepcz describing the thought bomb:

""It's an old Sith skill. The Force can be extracted and mentally bound into a shape primed for explosion."
―Lord Kopecz

From my understanding what Vitiate does on Ziost is similar to a thought bomb. He mind-controls those individuals and makes them cause slaughters which in turn release Dark Side energies in the corporeal reality. Vitiate draws those Dark Side energies towards himself and converts them into a Dark Side blast - and essentially he turns himself into a thought bomb. And he does not really drain anything, the Dark Side blast does that for him. Given that Vitiate is "at the epicenter of the detonation", everything that is drained - naturally - it is directed at him.

I mean, you probably already know this, but the Thought Bomb being based on Vitiate's ritual (Nathema specifically) has already been established. I believe it's mentioned in the Book of Sith, or something? In any case, this is a neat insight on how the ritual may have worked. 👆

Actually, it seems to have been from Force and Destiny.

Once known as Medriaas, Nathema was an agriworld of the Sith Empire at the time when the Sith also controlled the Chorlian sector. An ancient Dark Lord of the Sith named Darth Vitiate destroyed all life on Nathema with a ritual designed to grant him immortality. A transcription of the ritual was recorded by Darth Revan and served as the inspiration for Lord Kaan's thought bomb on Ruusan.

Unfortunately it has been revealed that Vitiate used the Zildrog on Medriaas. So that has been a misinterpretation compared to the new lore. However you could say that Vitiate's first ritual was not that sophisticated, and that is why he needed the Zildrog. The Zildrog served as the energy convertor because Vitiate's power to mind control would not be great enough to amass huge reserves of Dark Side energy.

I was explaining the process.
