The story will have the same ending. Like he said, some characters got consolidated/combined or removed but the end is the same.

Nope, you're still misrepresenting stuff.

He said YES and NO for a reason.

Spoiler:

Jon will still kill Dany, and go to the north
Dany will still go evil and burn down Kings Landing
Arya will sail the west
Sansa will become the Queen of the north
Jamie and Cersei will still die from the siege of Kings Landing
Tyrion will becomes the king's hand, and cripple boy will be king.

The ending will likely be exactly the same, unless GRRM decides to change it in the future like he did with book 3. GRRM made a point to address that plot point of certain individuals will be different, IE Young Griff, Mance..etc.

It's clear that GRRM doesn't see the end as in the end of the last page, but rather, the end of each plot point. By that interpretation, everything is different, even the first episode.

Superman taking a hit from Leviathan's explosion and casually using his super-speed to "debug" the explosion and see what it's made of was nice, too.
