Jack Kirby had him as Space Al Capone. It was Levitz in the Legion of Superheroes who made him into a skyfather level villian.

DC pushed that a decade ago. Scott being gay isn't far-fetched..I'd rather him be bi tho

I liked Alan being homophobic and eternally disappointed with his son.

Not that I approve of such behaviour; but that was Alan Scott I was most used to.

This new version(s)? Not really.

An Alan Scott who isn't a hardass isn't Alan Scott.

He's the guy Batman knew better then to snap at.

It defeats the purpose of the story. But I guess they had to 'punish' the character so they American Beauty'd him into "he dislikes it because he is one himself!"
