It was during the Battleworld tie-ins(Thors #1-4 specifically), so after. Not sure if it was retconned into a magical weapon before that.

But the post-SW Ultimate Mjolnir is what Volstagg was wielding.

At the part where Natasha has Tony as gunpoint. Can't help but notice she's kind of an idiot for not telling him to drop it first thing, since bottles can become weapons.

Youd have to read all the tieins but it went back and forth with tech and magic and Thor being an insane mortal and a god but prior to volstagg picking it, it was/is magic...same way Jane picked it up and transformed
