Steppenwolf's axe seemed to produce both heat and physical force. I don't think it would go well for either Venom or Riot if they took too many hits. In fact, they would probably die.

Venom and Riot have no durability feats on par with that friend, and their ability to heal their hosts' broken bones and lacerations won't mend them being pummeled into mush by Steppenwolf.

He got taken down by a grenade, had to be saved from being crushed by a boulder in Justice league, and knocked out by a fodder Atlantean who has inferior striking feats to Riot
