You're attributing powers to him that Aquaman doesn't have to explain poor art direction. Mera or someone with any kind of "underwater jet pack" would be someone you could use the argument on, but not Aquaman. The dude swims, he just swims in a way far beyond any human (or atlantean) could ever replicate.

Yep. If anything the movie focused too much on his strength and durability.

Again, the flaw is that when you say "translate" you mean speculating.
