The complete and utter collapse of Virginia's Democratic Party

In the last six days, the following things have happened:
Gov. Ralph Northam said he was in a picture in his medical school yearbook of two people -- one in blackface, the other in KKK robes. He then recanted and said he wasn't in that picture. But he added that he *had* darkened his face to look more like Michael Jackson for a dance contest in 1984.
A woman named Vanessa Tyson accused Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax of assaulting her during the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston. Fairfax angrily denied the allegations. Then on Wednesday Tyson released a statement, in which she said in part "what began as consensual kissing quickly turned into a sexual assault."
State Attorney General Mark Herring, in a statement released Wednesday morning, acknowledged that he, too, had appeared in blackface at a party. "In 1980, when I was a 19-year-old undergraduate in college, some friends suggested we attend a party dressed like rappers we listened to at the time, like Kurtis Blow, and perform a song," Herring said.

I think some people are wishing too hard here. While this isn't good, the "they're all dust!" sentiment is likely a pipe dream. On one hand we have someone saying they dressed up in Black-face to be a rapper for a Halloween party, sure, very bad choice, not good at all, like when Prince Harry dressed up like a Nazi.

But we're in a different political climate now, we're in the climate where a man can brag about being a sexual predator and gets away with it due to his fame/wealth/fame,has a history of being bigoted, routinely says inappropriate sexist and racist remakes and people don't care; in fact, he becomes president and people keep supporting that behavior.

If this had happened prior to Trump, sure, bombshell. So in reality, the Dems in VA should be thanking Trump and Trumpers. Watch.

Depends on what's stronger. The impulse to pull *** for tat, or the impulse to get as far away from anyone that remotely acts like a Maga hat wearer.

Probably not. When Al Franken resigned it was a show of good faith of 'we'll play by these rules' and what did that net the Democrats? Nothing. So don't blame them for now playing in the political climate Republicans and especially Trump Republicans created.

But reality is reality. The Dems are not going to play by rules the Reps refuse to play by. Franken showed that. He resigned over a tasteless photo, there wasn't physical contact and the Reps laughed and went "ha, suckers, fooled you!"

It wasnt just the photo he forced kissed a few girls as well.

He denied it and there was as much proof of that as the other people accused of similar or worse.

If you want to look at these things pragmatically then you can either be outraged by this kind of behaviour and condemn it but you have to apply that outrage to all sides of the political spectrum regardless of your own leanings or you can choose to accept that people running for office are no different from anyone else in that they've done stupid, reprehensible shit in their pasts.

Imagine what it's going to be like in 30 years when the entire political class have grown up in the digital age when every thing they've ever done online can be trawled up by others who oppose them politically and exposed. Are you going to demand the resignations of everyone who's ever illegally downloaded music? Ever made or shared an offensive or controversial post on Facebook or tweeted something crass? Ever watched some freaky deaky fetish porn?
