Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher not guilty of murder in ISIS detainee's death

Surt is triggered again.

We have eye witnesses saying they saw Gallagher stab the kid and there's a picture (edit: with the body) and text sent out by Gallagher saying "good story behind this, got him with my hunting knife.", which the defense did not dispute was sent.

So it seems like he got off because the person he murdered or tried to murder isn't someone people really care about and this guy is a decorated soldier.

Seems more likely that the prosecutors failed to present a strong case. Which is a shame as he is guilty.

Didnt one of the witnesses admit to killing the guy?

The guy killed other US service members before he was killed right?

Don't know enough about t as a case to comment on guilt what I do know is soldiers sometimes do things they shouldn't and are almost never prosecuted. Which in a way I understand, Who would join up if they were going to get charged with killing the enemy, even if sometimes they should be.

This kid wasn't a threat any longer, he was an unarmed and injured POW at the time. If we're going to act no better than ISIS, by torturing and murdering POWs and then taking trophy photos like they do, what's the point.

Ah, I misread that. I thought Gallagher had admitted to killing the kid to end his suffering after being acquitted.

Well I guess we will never really know what happened, much like OJ Simpson.

We do know what happened, Gallagher bragged about it via torphy photo and text: "good story behind this, got him with my hunting knife."

Read up on Gallagher though, he has years and years of other soldiers complaining that this guy is a nut, purposely targeting non-combatants while in the field and laughing at what he gets away with.

This is what it finally boiled down to:

Special Operator First Class Corey Scott, a SEAL medic, said that he saw Gallagher pull out his knife and stab the prisoner under his collar bone at least once.

On cross-examination, Scott told the defense that he never saw any blood after the stabbing. That's when Scott claimed he caused the prisoner's death by holding his thumb over his trachea tube until he suffocated.

Scott described the killing as an act of mercy because he was concerned the boy -- a prisoner of the Iraqi forces -- would be tortured by the Iraqis.

Scott did not admit to killing the prisoner in previous interviews with investigators and prosecutors. He testified that he was only doing so now because he was granted immunity, which means he cannot be prosecuted for his testimony.
The prosecution called him a liar. He might now face a perjury charge.

I do not know how the bolded section works, so US forces were interrogating Iraqi prisoners? Just another reason for the US to not be engaged in so many military actions constantly for over a decade.
