Topic for older members, have message boards been ruined for the young?

Do you remember, when the internet happened apart from visiting the local comic store you were unaware of others like you. Then you had the alt star wars boards, star destroyer.net spacebattles.com superherohype and KMC we all chatted. Now we all just troll, kids come here and because of paedoz online I won't talk to them, most of us won't. We drove the girls off the internet. New members are seen as probably socks... because they usually are. How broken is the internet when all we do is take pleasure in mocking each other?

Kinda. The Star Wars kids in general do not have the attention span for the most part. Most even hate Star Wars and think it is cool.

I remember when it was dial up it 1990. I was a kid and even trolled then

Jeez 1990? I was only 5. My first taste of the internet was at the age of 12. My mother had a computer for her work, but it was from 1992 and shitty and so I had no internet. However, my uncle had a laptop with a credit card modem. So when I'd be over there I'd use it and I'd mostly look at wrestling stuff.

Then when I was 14 we got a new PC and I got AOL. Again I mostly looked at wrestling stuff. I remember discovering Napster too right before it really took off. Just one song took hours to download and I remember the very first mp3 I downloaded was "The Roots-Next Movement".

Do I think message boards have been ruined? No. This board may have been, but there are other forums with stricter mods and also some where you actually have to pay to register so it tends to weed out the trolls.

Pretty sure girls took to twitter. They got with the times, while nerds are stuck in the past of bulletin boards.

reddit, mumsnet, specialist sports sites etc

I disagree. Posting at KMC has been a rather Unfair Activity made so by Certain Parties on KMC for a very long Time.

I won't Mention any names.

I still get better news updates from this site than places like reddit.

voat is a cesspool of racism and sexism so it is almost out. reddit is a cesspool of leftist idiocy and literal Democratic Party propaganda. It's pretty sad when the best updates on current events comes from KMC.

I also don't get to see some of the better topics unless someone like Robtard or Surtur post the article.

Also, I like helping others open up the doors to new ideas or sharing information.

This is still a great 2-way street. I need more people posting here, though. Less trolling, more smart-people posting stuff for us.

my generation ruined everything

we basically suck lol

You are the best of it.

For better or worse, one of my favourite things about places like KMC is that it's much less of an echo chamber than the likes of Reddit. We don't square people away in their little spaces where they never have to listen to opposing viewpoints, and the lack of downvoting means that everyone has a say (regardless of whether what they have to say is stupid or not).

I just wish people wouldn't be so reactionary or overblown when it came to serious issues, but then again, that's their right.

Don't disagree at all. On another note re the trolling here. I genuinely am starting to not see the point, most regular posters here have been on message boards so long and are so thick skinned meltdowns never really happen. Take someone like Insane Titan or Broly, when they lose there shit, they are not losing there shit they are al.ost certainly smiling on the other side of the screen and laughing. They are having a laugh. I honestly can't remember the last time I saw someone truly triggered here. But I think this thick skinnedness of an old forum and a set of regular posters who are mainly around thirty to 60ish with people like mindship, archeopteryx etc and plenty of people like Bada, Rob, Bruce, Snowdtagon erc and I from mid to late 40's to early 50,s. It gives many varied views but perhaps is frightening to new members. Whilst I'd hate to see a return to the old days of mad moderators barely old enough to buy fireworks on power trips, ironically, coming from me, I do think we should moderate ourselves better. This forum has been through a lot and many of us have been around here decades.

😆 I love you too you beautiful blonde. If I was 10 years younger, I would love to roll juijitsu with you. 🙂 my knees don't like groundwork too much these days.

Message Boards have ALWAYS been Very Inhospitable Places.
