Why is Palpatine upfront with Anakin about an apprentice betraying his master?
I mean, it's not really a betrayal, if you have to tell someone to backstab you.
Wouldn't it make more sense to lie about it, pretend loyalty is paramount, and see who figures out for themselves what's what?
Also, does Palpatine WANT to be knifed in the back someday? Are Sith masters desperately praying to the dark side that their head ends up on a pike, and proud if it happens?
just because the apprentice in the Plagueis story betrayed him doesn't mean that all Sith Lords do that; at least from Anakns perspective, its not as if they learn about Sith history in Jedi school after all so the history of betrayal is something you'd really have to seek out to learn as a Padawan
Plus that Plagueis the Wise story impact hinged on the betrayal

There's no point in not being upfront about it. Treachery is the way of the Sith; it's the inevitable, natural conclusion of the philosophy. All historical attempts at curbing it, or pretending that it's avoidable, failed. It's why the Sith eventually elected to limit themselves to pairs rather than amassing armies like the Jedi. At least that way, the apprentice would be forced to get the better of their master in order to seize power, and thus the order wouldn't completely implode like it had in the past. The worthiest remains standing.
