I think some people are forgetting that the ring Hal forged literally IS his own personal willpower condensed into a GL ring:

And as we know, Hal's 'God-Will' = the light of creation itself:

hals ring is orders of magnitude above any other gl ring.

It's not been defined. Suffice to say though, it's not just willpower.

And that's with a normal GL ring.

Here in this thread, it's Hal's special ring. That experienced GLs like Kyle was having trouble with....and HE'S got willpower and bravery etc feats in spades.
