Funding cartoon shorts?

Two infamous examples are John Kricfalusi's Cans without Labels and VivziePops Hazbin Hotel, Why would anyone pay for these shorts?, its a waste of time and money. both cartoon shorts tried way too hard to be funny and failed to be entertaining.
