But if TLJ was a standalone movie and hadn't kinda what on all the star wars before it it wouldn't seem that bad.
Terrible dialogues. Plenty of unnecessary scenes. Pathetic attempts at humour.
No, it would suck as a standalone even worse. TLJ being Star Wars is the only reason it still exists in our minds.
It's pretty sad. Heck, the SW forums here are pretty much dead despite the fact that the final film in the trilogy comes out in a month, a major video game was just released, and a live-action show is currently airing. By contrast, they were buzzing with activity back before the Disney buyout when there were no films. It's crazy how bad Disney has mishandled the franchise.

Avatar > Force Awakens as well. Which is just an unapologetic clone of ANH.
This, absolutely. Avatar is better than any of the new Star Wars really. Which is sad, quite frankly, that they bungled Star Wars so badly.
Avatar has a lot going for it in the visuals and action department. I've grown more forgiving of it over the years. James Cameron, for all his flaws, is a really great action director and he obviously knows how to use a highly visual medium.
