the writer is using thanos point of view to show what actually happened during that fight, there's no subjective here.
option to beat Monarch? punching and blasting him should do fine, if he can crack Galactus' armor and break his helmet, I don't see why he wouldn't do it to monarch unless you think monarch is more durable?
He can give Galactus a extremely difficult fight and Galactus is level above Monarch I think most would agree, the same Galactus who has multiversal feat during Scrier arc
