Honestly, the mods have been mulling over that for a while. But the issue is that what little activity the forum has would probably slow to a crawl. Troublemakers or trolls or whatever you want to call them, drive traffic. They always have. So then the question becomes, well, how long do we ban them for.
Yes, some of them are going to cry about bias or that the mods have some personal vendetta against them... when we really don't. I mean, don't derail threads and you pretty much get left alone, and you can, to an extent, say whatever you like. Look how much leeway people have been given in the past.

If Surtur comes back in a month and wants a clean slate, cool. No harm done, and hopefully we can go from there. If not, well, that's really up to him. We've forgiven worse things than Surt has done, so if he is genuine, then cool.
It's a much better option than the alternative.
I'm not going to comment further on mods in the past. Hell knows I didn't get on with a few of them, and a few of them turned out to be right *****. I try my best not to be like that, but I know I can't please everyone, so I'm not going to try.

Derailing threads is par the course for the GDF, and there are plenty of posters who actually avoid the GDF because of this toxicity. Better conversation may well arise if a certain 6 or 7 members weren't dominating every topic with their infighting nonsense. Just look at the threads... it's all the same shit and all the same people enacting that shit. Surtur 100% contributes more than his share of this, but banning only him will create nothing but more of what you're talking about.
