To Democratic/Left Leaning Posters - What do you value in Politics

There seems to be a pretty strong ideological divide on this forum. In this thread I'd be interested to hear from posters that consider themselves more in the left leaning camp, I made a similar one for Republican Leaning and Right posters.

The question is "What do you value in Politics?"

By that I mean, what do you want your ideal world to be, what are important political topics to you, what are political lines you are not willing to cross, how do you think people and politicians should behave, how do you feel society is ordered right now, things like that

I don't want this to devolve into an argument immediately, although I understand my ability to influence that is limited, but please if you would, at least initially, lets not attack whatever the posters thoughts are.

If you view yourself as somewhere in the middle, please use the thread you prefer

What I value from politics is fostering an environment that has the greatest amount of individual liberty and choice. This environment should be setup to also foster the greatest amount of scientific and technological achievement. All policies should be based on good, sound, science.

Part of this liberty and choice are two things:

1. A true universal healthcare that is affordable to 3-4 sigma.

2. A true universal basic income that is sustainable to barely make it in the bottom quartile of housing and food.

I am an old school European Unionist (I believe in trade unions), the welfare state, a fair days pay for a fair days work. People have the right to a work life balance, shelter, healthcare with more available based on wages for people who work. Also, a lot of what you said. Human beings have rights. We've come very far in terms of social growth, yet still a lot of developed worlds cling to systems which bind people to poverty and disenfranchisement. Truly free people aren't controlled by debt or business interested governments.
