Former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin swore on Sunday she would only get vaccinated against COVID-19 "over my dead body. Enough is enough," the Republican firebrand said, "especially when it comes to government telling us what we have to inject in our own bodies. No."

Palin was speaking at AmericaFest, an event in Phoenix, Arizona held by Turning Point USA, and she was discussing vaccine mandates with organization founder Charlie Kirk. "I will not do it. I won't do it, and they better not touch my kids, either," she told Kirk.

She has since tested positive for the coronavirus, as she had been set to begin a defamation trial against The New York Times on Monday.

Palin's positive test was announced by U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff in Manhattan, who is presiding over the case. "She is of course unvaccinated," the judge said, referring to Palin.

A severely ill COVID-19 patient, flown from Minnesota to Texas during a legal battle over whether his ventilator should be turned off, died Saturday.

Scott Quiner, who was unvaccinated, was being kept alive by the machine at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids—north of Minneapolis—after contracting COVID-19 in October. His family sued the hospital over a move to disconnect Quiner, and a judge issued a restraining order January 13th blocking Mercy from turning off the machine.

Last weekend, the family flew Quiner to Texas, where he was being treated at a Houston hospital. He died Saturday morning. The family's story drew national attention as the surge in COVID-19 patients strained hospitals across the country.

David Ferguson is speaking out passionately on behalf of his son DJ. He says the 31-year-old is fighting for his life at Brigham and Women's Hospital and in desperate need of a heart transplant. "My son has gone to the edge of death to stick to his guns and he's been pushed to the limit," Ferguson said.

The family says he was at the front of the line to receive a transplant but because he has not received the COVID-19 vaccination he is no longer eligible according to hospital policy. And Ferguson says his son refuses to get the shot.

"It's kind of against his basic principles, he doesn't believe in it. It's a policy they are enforcing and so because he won't get the shot, they took him off the list of a heart transplant," Ferguson said.

Shamgar Connors, 42, is a patient at University of Virginia Hospital who is now listed as "inactive" on the list for a life-saving kidney transplant. Connors said his entire family had COVID-19 and does not believe he needs the vaccine.

"I'd rather die of kidney failure," Connors told Dr. Karen Warburton after she asked if he was willing to receive the vaccine.

Olavo de Carvalho, the coronavirus-denying mentor of Jair Bolsonaro and Brazil's radical right, has died in the United States, with one of his children citing Covid-19 as the cause.

"The family asks for prayers for the professor's soul," relatives Tweeted after announcing the death of the 74-year-old.

The statement did not say how Carvalho—a former astrologer who repeatedly trivialized Covid as the "moronavirus"—had died. However, his estranged daughter, Heloísa de Carvalho, said coronavirus was the cause.
