I do have a nice place. I live in a newly-renovated mid-century building in a secure community. Before moving here several years ago, I parted with all of my previous furnishings, and designed the new space from scratch. I have sort of outgrown it, but I want my next move to be with a husband to the suburbs. Not so much for the man, but because the second income will afford me something really nice. I could get what I want, where I want now, but I do not want any projects. And for a little bit more, I could get exactly what I want, but move-in ready.

I don't know about coping gangs, but there is this concept of a "validation gang", which I have read about. The concept is basically that groups band together and strengthen their previously determined views by validating them. This can apply to politics, for example you are only surrounded by people who share your liberal views and you exchange memes that support them, and mock the "others" together that don't believe what you believe (the same is true for conservatives as well). It doesn't have to be political though, it could be any subgroup you define your identity by, whether that is vegan, being anti-vaccines or as a gamer.

It's part of the partisan affliction that ails the US in particular. And it seems to me that there is some of that going on on this website.
