Why couldn't Kylo use force lightning?

Rey who was Kylo's equal, was able to conjure lightning just by momentarily using her anger during the ship struggle. So why couldn't Kylo who had definitely tapped into his anger and rage more then Rey, conjure it?

Is there anything saying that Kylo can't? Maybe he just didn't see a reason to use it.

He really should have been able to, given that his potential was equal to Rey's and he had yearS of training under his belt.

It'd be pretty stupid if Kylo was unable to use an ability that Rey was able to access just by briefly giving in to her anger/rage.

He’s not a Palpatine so he can’t.

Neither was Dooku

It was a joke. The film seem to make the stupid implication that Palpatines have an inclination to using FL and that's why Rey was so easily able to use it. Absolutely awful.

👆

They're supposed to be equal but that scene shows that Rey's TK is stronger, because they're at a stalemate (before Rey destroys the ship) even though Kylo is aided by the ship's engines.

Actually the novelization says Rey gets pissed because Kylo was winning the tug of war and that’s when she shoots the lightning. It’s meant to be a sign of her lineage and how easily she can lose her temper

And if you watch the scene again you can see that the ship actually wasn’t aiding Kylo. It turns around so that it’s working against whoever starts winning the tug of war

Nope. The ship was pointing up the whole time. If the novelization says Kylo was winning it's contradicting the movie. Whether it's intentional or not the movie portrays Rey's TK as superior.

Not true.

Toward the end of their struggle, Kylo had actually started to pull the ship towards him:

That was actually what angered Rey enough to briefly manifest lightning. The novelization just corroborates what we saw happen on-screen.

Dude, rewatch the scene. You’re wrong, when Kylo starts to pull it closer to him it turns so that it’s fighting against him. See above what galan posted^

It barely moved. Your interpretations are colored by those silly novels.

It did a full 180 in Kylo's direction. 😕

The reason this is funny is because that was the dumb assery implication in the film.
