Lightsaber skill??

Outside of just pure technical skill with a lightsaber, is there a single trait or ability that dictates how an all-out saber battle will go?

Like, aside from skill what matter the most in a lightsaber battle?

Force power —> force augmentation

1. Personality.
2. Compatibility with the opponent.
3. Strength in the force / affinity for control-type powers.
4. Athleticism.

Differences in ability to manage environmental hazards, or differences in familiarity with the terrain might also make a difference; that's rarer, though.

Force attunement/balance, and overall mindset.

Kanan vs. the Grand Inquisitor is a prime example: in their first battle, GI toyed with Kanan as though he were a talentless feeb. Fast-forward to their next battle and Kanan beat the GI handily, just by letting go of his fears.

Even though Kanan's technical skill didn't increase between those encounters, him becoming far more balanced and attuned with the Force still had a tremendous impact on the battle.

^ Kanans skill did increase. The encounter before their final one where he gets captured GI says to him “you’ve been practicing”

But yeah, mindset and mental clarity clearly makes a massive difference. Cant believe I didnt remember the Kanan point when I was arguing with YousufKhan about Rebels Kenobi being > ROTS Kenobi facepalm

Granted, but even then his technical skill likely hadn't improved much, as the GI still resoundingly overpowered him.

But when Kanan dropped his fears and became more attuned with the Force(and therefore balanced), he picked the GI apart decisively.

Kanan decsively beating the grand inquistor but only being able to stalemate the others is rather annoying for me.

The problem is Kanan was typically fighting with a handicap against the Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister. They fought him in a pair, and he was usually backed by an inferior combatant. He was having to look after Zeb and Ezra in his battles against them, so his focus was divided. When he actually gets a chance to 1v1 the Inquisitors, he does very well, even decisively beating the Eighth Brother.
