Google will likely be hit with federal and state antitrust lawsuits

Interesting. Do people here think this is warranted or unwarranted?

Will the outcome in anyway impact my ability to search for porn?

If not i dont really care which way it goes.

Its been an.open secret that google is invading personal.privacy like many other websites. Nobody paod attention due to convenience

Google, Facebook, Amazon: time for the Ma Bell treatment.

yeah, I think google has way too much power and a clear monopoly on search engines. unless you want to count Bing, but that would just be trolling)

Since I'm running into the "results are clearly biased" wall, these days, yeah.

When I search the facts of a topic but I'm met with almost 100% fake news from MSM outlets, google has effed up. If I wanted only fake news results, I'd just visit the standard culprits.

This happened just the other day. I'll see if I can remember all the spin-doctor evils of google to show you what I mean.

It sounds totally warranted. They, along with Amazon/Apple/Facebook, are being investigated by the Justice Department for stomping out potential competitors and stifling innovation that would threaten them.

It's a modern example of a way in which pure capitalism can eat itself. One thicc boi makes it nearly impossible for small bois to begin playing the game, so competition becomes non-existant. Diversity in our economic policy is important: we have to regulate these things so monopsonies/monopolies/oligopolies don't run our entire system over.

Well, more than they already do, I guess you could argue.

Surtur's article leads to examples in the history of this issue with these companies.

"The European Commission last week opened a formal antitrust investigation into whether Amazon uses data from independent retailers who sell on its marketplace to compete against them."

"And in July, the EC slapped Google with a $4.9 billion fine for pitching its Android operating system for phones as “open” while placing restrictions on phone makers to ensure its internet browser, Google Chrome, was the only browser pre-installed on Android phones."

"Apple is reportedly being probed by the EC over complaints by Swedish company Spotify that its App Store rules favor its own apps over those from competitors."

“Without the discipline of meaningful market-based competition, digital platforms may act in ways that are not responsive to consumer demands,” Makan Delrahim, head of the DOJ’s antitrust team, said in a statement.

^ This guy gets it.
