I do not think the House clerk will allow them to change the rules. That would require regular business, which cannot begin until a speaker is selected.
Apparently it happened back in the 1800s when the House was at stalemate like this.
Could just be a pipe dream Republicans are tossing around due to sheer desperation and looking like complete incompetents snapping at their own throats.
Hakeem Jeffries only needs 6 Republicans to vote his way to become speaker
Keven McCarthy would need at least 15 (likely 17) Democrats to vote his way to become speaker
Since 6 will always be fewer than 15+, it's simple maths that Republicans are impeding the government from operating, they're impeding progress. Just facts.
the concession that was made to win the latest votes was to shut down the government when it's time to raise the debt ceiling. they want to destroy our economy. they're terrorists. and the holdouts are still holding out because they want more. probably/predictably to ratf*ck the doj for trump's jan 6 criminal conduct, among all his other crimes
The DOJ is going to do what the DOJ is going to do, regardless if (when) they destroy the economy with their policies over the next two years so Biden, or whomever is running in 2024, looks bad. This is standard Republican tactics.
Every incumbent Republican deserves to lose their seat, in both the House and Senate.
Gaetz voted present, so McCarthy lost for a 14th time now 😂
McCarthy rage-walked up to Gaetz and they had a heated exchange, looked like McCarthy wanted to attack Gaetz.
Now he’s trying to get one of the other holdouts to change their vote before the ballot closes.
Republicans are even more a bunch of embarrassing clowns
