I still do. haven't smoked up in a few months, but I will again. I did give up drinking for the most part, though it's impossible to avoid completely when working/hanging out in manhattan. happy hour invites are just unavoidable, and you end up losing touch with people if you turn them all down. but I like being thin, and alcohol is get-fat-quick juice; so I keep it at 2-3 drinks...which actually gets me pretty buzzed these days
hmm
Respect. I'll stop with the alcohol comments/memes to you.
From a health perspective, alcohol is just bad news all around. Smoking weed is bad for you, yes, but you could easily greatly reduce the negatives while enjoying the positives by vaping and/or using edibles/pills. IDGAF, I tell people I hate alcohol if/when we go out. I do get mocked for it but I really really DGAF - alcohol is nasty and I still haven't "acquired a taste' for it 15+ years later.
About the NYC drinks thing. I dated a gal who lived in Manhattan and she always always just wanted to go somewhere to drink alcohol for literally anything we did. Missed me? Drinks. Meet up midday for brunch or lunch on the weekend? Drinks. Formal date? Drinks + whatever activity. Meet her friends? Drinks. Drinks? Drinks.
I couldn't do the long distance relationship and drinking. She was a stunner and looked 70% like younger Sofia Vergara. Was she an alcoholic? I don't know. But it seemed like all her friends did the same...and it was just "Manhattan culture." All my employees and coworkers did the same. damn. thing. any time I visited NYC. Felt like a culture thing to me and I wasn't interested in it.

Is weed actually bad for you though, and im sure it depends on how its ingested, via smoke and butane, or done with vape or ingestion of just THC.

I had Bashy all wrong. He's much more mature and understanding than the shit show others present.I did coke maybe once or twice. It just wasn't for me. What's the point in being chatty for about 5 minutes and then thinking "I need more coke?" It's like going to a strip club. Go in, spend £50 for some awesome fun, then go to the atm for another round. Once you've run out of money you go home alone and have a wank.
