Well, google will only give me pages about this year, so it's not helpful.

You seemed pretty sure about your statement so you don't even have some in general idea about what he did?

I'm gonna ask you to be honest: you were basing this off the mere fact he was vice president at the time it was passed, right?

Here in the UK where I live, I can get basic medical service free of charge, as can any citizen or immigrant or tourist. The priority is to keep the patient alive, not if they can pay the ****ing bill. Say I break an arm or a leg, I'd get treatment free of charge. We also have private insurance for people who wanna pay extra if they're cancer patients, for eg.

Your system sucks ass.

That's LITERALLY the same system here (except it isn't free) and it is a lie that the US also won't provide the services. It's a common lie spread by the people who hate the US.

The problem in the US is the lack of consistency in medical care, across the board, and the lack of cost-regulation. Making our medical services much more expensive. But our medical services still provide the same care regardless of whether or not a person is covered. Your life will be saved here, too. You'll just get a giant bill.

And, depending on where you are, you could get much better care in the US than anywhere else in the world while they are saving your life. 🙂

Make sure your criticisms of the US are legit and not commonly debunked talking points. Critique our shitty data sharing and lack of cohesion across the medical landscape. Critique our lack of no-nonsense cost controls. Critique the corruption from medical equipment and service corporations who price gouge to keep costs too high. Critique the insurance companies for trying to make money off of hurt and ill people. Those are all legit problems we have.

But our doctors and nurses not caring about providing medical care? That's not one of our problems. They do a good job almost all of the time. Our average of "good job" is worse than the UK's NHS, yes, but it's still pretty good.

In other words, you don't know.

You just admitted it! You get a giant ****ing bill.

Do they get a huge bill?

And if they can't pay it, what happens?

They probably badger you with phone calls until you pay, but I doubt there are any legal consequences.

Keep in mind the system isn't perfect, but we aren't really gonna just let people die if they need care.

You truly do not find any flaw in that?

Well wait, I can't fully blame you here. You're not from here. You might not be aware just how uninvolved VP's are in the major stuff. They're basically useless.

"A new study has found that a horrifying 530,000 families turn to bankruptcy each year due to medical bills they can’t pay. In the end, it’s easier to declare bankruptcy than to allow oneself to drown in medical expenses."

"A television station in Rochester was doing a piece on the unaffordability of insulin for diabetics like their son, Alec Smith. The couple related how Alec, who was working as a restaurant manager and had hopes of opening his own restaurant one day, died in his Minneapolis apartment from ketoacidosis after rationing his insulin.

When he turned 26, Alec was no longer covered by Nicole’s health insurance and did not have enough in the bank to cover his next prescription for insulin and supplies, which by then cost him $1,300 a month. His salary at the time was $35,000 a year, which was too much to qualify for state medical assistance but not enough to allow him to find a policy on the individual market he could afford."

Don't let facts get in the way of defending Americas' horrible health care system.

I was more so talking about like short term emergency care. I had a friend who collapsed in a restaurant and had to go to the ER, got hounded about the bill, but it never escalated.

Yes ongoing medical bills can be problematic, and sometimes the hit comes from having to miss work and not getting paid for your time off.

Hmmm. Interesting.

@Surtur

So you agree people die in America due to lack of affordable healthcare?

And that medical bankruptcy exists in America?

I can't think of a single country where no single human dies cuz of this, what I was saying is if you're literally dying and go to a hospital you won't be turned away.

And yes. It's not perfect, I never claimed it was.

It is. For instance, did you know FDR only met Harry Truman like...twice? And that was during a world war.

Do you support M4A?

I'd support any feasible plan to provide healthcare for everyone.

Do you think M4A is that?

wow...I can totally can relate, that sucks horribly.

Curious: did you immediately mock and stalk him on the internet, from day 1 of his recovery, accusing him of having attempted suicide over and over? Just asking for a friend.

It was also 80 years ago.

Wait are you saying I repeatedly accused you of attempting suicide? Lol!

Considering most countries in the Western world have some form of M4A, yes.

I used to be suicidal! I'm better now.
